This work was commissioned by and for RETREKS under the proposition 'How the other half...' and constitute the conceptual-artistic spine of the  unSUNg CITY event: RETREKS unSUNg CITY was first shown as a 'nine story multimedia show' at Kings City Parkade, Johannesburg, September 30, 2000.
'Adventure Centre' is informed by the gradual shift in the commercial and cultural modes of an area in the centre of Cape Town city where the artist lived for ten years. By the end of the 1990's it had become a popular recreation area of clubs, bars, tourist agencies offering expeditions into Africa, drug trade, informal work for African refugees, and a high concentration of displaced children. The images are composed of photographs of the actual location, and of Alexander's sculpture.
