'in/tangible cartographies – new arab video' was commisioned by World Wide Video Festival 2001, and especially curated by Jayce Salloum.
The impact of light and lenses, aggressive acts of surveillance, the ploy of the voyeur or a strategic display of vulnerability and intimacy in the least of intimate settings. Just as fruit and vegetables are picked for their external appearance, three women at Beirut checkpoints are asked to reveal their intimate acts supposedly done in the dark. The blow of the lens and light in the eyes, the cover of darkness removed and revelations executed through light.
