A woman is sitting in her lingerie combing her mid-length hair, some of which is hanging over and covering her face. Again and again she draws the brush through her hair, brushing not only her hair but her face as well. The act of brushing has something dogged as well as mechanical about it. Through her hair we can see her makeup, smeared. It is on the brush as well and is being brushed into her hair.
It gives a minimal colour element to the for the rest alost colourless image. Her sexy lingerie turns out not to be sexy at all and strengthens the feeling of hopelessness.
In her tapes Hester Scheurwater uses herself as model in front of the camera. Improvising, she shows her own emotions, desires and fears, and as voyeur in relation to them they become her visual diary notes Ð apparently without concerning herself about a tradition of art history.
