WORLD WIDE VIDEO FESTIVAL MADELON HOOYKAAS & ELSA STANSFIELD
10 May
Vondelpark AMSTERDAM
On a large circular screen suspended from the branch of a tree
a projection is shown at night. During the day, a sound tape is played
of fragments from movie soundtracks combined with sounds from nature
and from the surrounding Vondelpark, and passers-by can project their
own imagination onto the empty screen. The images and sounds are
from carefully chosen moments in the history of cinema, that are
related to the age of the tree. The work is dedicated to the memory and
consciousness of the tree, and is especially designed for this location.
An earlier version - Day For Night II - was made in 2001, especially for a
tree in the botanical gardens of Montréal.
