Presentation
Three years ago, several remarkable video clips from Rogier van der Ploeg infiltrated the pop media bastion MTV. The clips that Van der Ploeg made for his pop group Astral Bodies, with limited means and using much home industry and very little money, made a great impression. The captivating, playful clips exceed the musical value of the group and Astral Bodies did not survive long. That brought to an end (provisionally-) the Van der Ploeg's musical career which had started at the end of the seventies when, together with his brother Maarten and the graphic artist Peter van der Klashorst, he made performance-like appearances with the group Interior. This multi media group alma made a name for itself with its own TV station (PKP-TV) and a ditto discotheque (Disco Bozar). Without Van der Klashorst, the Van der Ploeg brothers subsequently went on to create a furor with Blue Murder, an apparently perfect pop group whose breakthrough had still not happened after five tasteful LPs. Rogier van der Ploeg was by now much in demand as a video artist who did trailblazing work for the VPRO television company's youth programme 'Onrust!'. He could not then save Astral Bodies despite an ingenious theatre show about space travel in which video and film were important elements. Being asked steadily more frequently as a clip maker for Dutch pop groups, Rogier van der Ploeg concentrated with great success on this electronic craft. Last year, together with his colleague Rene Eller, he started the company Czar Media Productions and since then, their productions have become indispensable to the music programmes of cable tv stations with such diverse acts as Urban Dance Squad and Ten Sharp. Rogier van der Ploeg tells about his work using a number of his clips.
