  Night of the Shimmy Video

  USA 1991
Videotape, 120:00
A hilarious, two hour compilation of video clips and related material from the archives of Shimmy Disc, Mark Kramer's cult label. The idiosyncratic Kramer once played bass guitar with Shockabilly and the Butthole Surfers and made a name for himself in the last few years with B.A.L.L. and Bongwater (with general dogsbody Ann Magnuson). Kramer is also a director, house producer, technician, session musician and star of Shimmy Disc, a record company in which not only his own groups show their artistry but in which you can also find such superb artists as The Tinkers, Daniel Johnson, Fred Lane, King Missile, Galaxie 500, Tuli Kupferberg (ex-Fugs) and When People Were Shorter And Lived Near The Water. Videos from these and other jovial Shimmy Disc acts can be seen in this programme, linked by commentary from Kramer himself. Ingenuity and humour set the tone, whilst the concept of 'no budget' acquires a new meaning.
