Sacrificial Burnings
  Canada 1981
Videotape, 38:00, colour
There is a group of women who men do not understand. In ancient times they were burnt for alleged witchcraft, these days they are locked away in an institution or in marriage. 'Sacrificial Burnings' is a feminist tape which draws a parallel between the burning of witches in the Middle Ages and the lives of two women of this age: Francis Farmer, a Hollywood actress, and a woman who flees an unpleasant situation only to end up in a deadly marriage. Quotes from a Fifteenth Century manuscript by two Dominican monks describing the evil of woman and her connections with the devil return repeatedly in the tape.
