The essence of Tomiyo Sasaki's tapes is repetition with the preservation of direct sound. The piling up of elements consisting of the continual repetition, with slight variations in length, of a movement and the accompanying sound produces a visible and audible melody. She had earlier applied this technique to people blowing bubblegum bubbles in 'Bubbling'. In this case she has created a piece for a number of monitors from material recorded in Kenya: three strongly contrasting examples of African fauna - elegant flamingoes, pelicans and almost prehistoric birds - walking, swimming, taking off and flying. The differences in their motions and sound are the instruments which determine the composition.
