ICTUS mainly consists of people who used to work for Chilean Television. After the coup in 1973 they were sacked for being subversive influences. Instead of fleeing into exile, they stayed in Chile and set up a theatre group which subtly examined the 'New Chilean Order' of the military. In 1976 they started up an alternative TV circuit: short plays and documentaries shown at closed gatherings mainly to people in the poor neighbourhoods. Meanwhile ICTUS has developed professionally, but the message remains the same: documentaries and short plays revealing Chilean society with subtlety and humour to an audience which has experienced a lot, but is barely aware of it. And that is ICTUS' main aim: to show Chileans what has happened to them. In 'La Historia de un Roble Solo' the 'necessity' of 'owning something' is questioned in a humorous yet dramatic way.
