A child is unable to comprehend the sexual act from his own experience and sees it only as an act of violence. Similarly here, the viewer can only stare transfixed at this taut portrayal of straining bodies, unable to grasp the emotions, whether dumb suffering or sublime extasy, here represented. To take a more detached view, it might be claimed that the axioms of classic nude photography are here elevated to the levelof video-performance. A symbiosis of both premises is an old truth: the aesthetic sense traces narrow paths which mighty reason cannot tread.
