In the past, Greenaway has whetted his encyclopaedic mind on exhaustive fundamental research concerning the usefulness of telephone-boxes and the best way to survive being struck by lightning. In 'The Falls' he exhibited a hydropathological fixation which here brims over into a cataract of bathtubs. Without nit-picking, it has to be said that here - despite an historical analysis of the subject - his approach is somewhat less meticulous than in the past. Where, for instance, is the Anti-slip mat, the Brown stain under the tap, or even the Clumsy soap-on-a-rope gift-set? Greenaway has allowed himself to be dazzled by eccentricity and fashionable hi-tech gadgetry: a one-person jacuzzi for two isn't much of a sight, and as long as books are not printed on plastic the conversion of bathroom to include studycorner is hardly to be recommended. The I, S, Z and especially Q are, however, brilliant. Erik Daams as well.
