For a long time now, the lion's share of Yugoslavian film production has consisted of heroic propaganda films concerning the role of partisan groups in World War II. The makers of 'The moments of decision' use an eponymous film of this sort, dating from 1955, to reconstruct the way of acting as being representative of the era. They concentrate especially on the characteristic method then in use to emphasize key points of the narrative. By superimposing present-day actresses on the characters of the film, they investigate whether the acting style of the period is still viable today. The effect is interesting not only from the point of view of cinema history, but also in that it results in an extremely attractive form of theatre in which the blood-and-thunder melodrama of the genre actually regains its original magic.
