A simple shot from the window of a moving train forms the theme of an almost hypnotic video. We follow the gaze of the camera from the lefthand window of the Tokyo-bound Bullet Train. As the train gathers speed, the angle of view of the camera narrow, until the outside world, seen through the telephotolens, is no more than a chaotic jumble of lines. From time to time, the camera is turned back the way the train has come, and then in a flash odd fragmentary images are clearly recognizable - they seem momentarily to stand still. The speed of the camera movement versus the speed of the Shinkasen. Mechanically, remorselessly, the whole journey is recorded. Is the choice of 'fragments' mere chance or that of the person behind the camera? The soundtrack accompanying the images, the noise in the compartment where the recording was made, forms a restful contrast to the world racing by at 200 km/hour.
