Dreamy, hypnotic images bathed in the warm red glow of a newly lit oillamp drift by as if in a labyrinth. The atmospheric music is mirrored by a voice reciting an equally hypnotic text in time to the images: memories tumble and turn, to and fro, like the tide, while confusion confuses itself and an error is accepted as entry, until the shadow of a word restores equilibrium. In the four-part series, this poetic section is foliowed by 'Key/Code', where the fore-going images are distilled with musical punctuation into a pictogram. 'Translations' then makes this pictogram, little by little, very tentatively, begin to move again. Finally, the 'Adagio' embraces elements from all three earlier episodes, but uses them in a dreamier and more lilting way, until the lamp once again goes out.
