L 'amour des chaines
  Belgium 1986
Videotape, 52:00, colour
In a form that can compete with the way European commercial television stations try to chain the greatest possible share of viewers to the set, 'L 'amour des chaines' presents the findings of an investigation into the background of commercial broadcast organisations like Canale 5, TV6, RTL, Sky Channel and Music Box. Nobody will be surprised to learn that the profit-motive is the strongest, and that the programmes that are supposed to produce these profits (from advertising income) are practically interchangeable with each other. More disquieting are the links the owners of these companies have with other branches of the information and entertainment industry. Is the whole of Europe going to be swamped within a few years by 'Beaujolais-television'? The potential is great, the interests enormous, the turn-over gigantic. And the dangers no less.
