Monika Funke-Stern and Hanno Baethe certainly don't pussyfoot around in their interpretation of the famous Grimm's fairy tale, 'The frog prince or iron Henry'. Whereas in the Grimm version, the youngest princess at first had some difficulties with the frog prince's proposals, in exchange for which he would retrieve her golden ball, the situation is very different in 'Das Wesen der Verwandlung'. Instead of reluctantly obeying the authority of her father The King - whose maxim was: "What you promise, that you must perform" - the young princess throws her whole body into the fight. Using sophisticated camera set-ups, principally focussed on the erogenous zones, the frog prince is thoroughly put to the test. Thus we are witness to a blistering interpretation of an ancient fairy tale whose message nonetheless stills seems to be very much alive and kicking.
