Babsi, eine Name für viele Gesichter
  Germany 1990
Videotape, 28:12, colour, mono
Prostitutes live together in a house for hours, days and sometimes months. They call themselves by their 'work names': Trixi, Diana, Babsi or Moni. Names which are both warm and light, intimate. Their daily rhythm is altered by the activities; days become nights, nights become days. And just as the days lose their original rhythm, so many rules lose their validity. Whilst waiting for the clients, they fill their time by lacquering their nails, smoking, drinking from exquisite glasses, cosily together, or quietly sitting in the bath, they make up their eyes once again and tell jokes. Clients call up, or call by, ask the prices or invite them to visit them at home. Then follow the day-to-day chores of washing, sleeping, washing their hair and putting on their make-up again. The TV is on and brings images of the life outside into the domestic atmosphere of the women, breakfast is at the same time the evening meal and the first customer calls, hungry for physical excitement.
