The Danish painter Hans Henrik Lerfeldt died in July 1989, just before the completion of a documentary dedicated to him. The video sketches a personal image of this controversial artist who, using almost photographic detail in explicit portraits, referred to pornography. As a person, the heavily built Lerfeldt was just as controversial because of his paradoxical views on his own work, inspiration and the world as he experienced it. Director Jensen worked closely with Lerfeldt and 'It's a blue world' shows the chain-smoking and ice-cream eating painter in his work surroundings, digging through his gigantic collection of jazz records and playing with many of his risqué baubles. Biographically, Jensen interchanges acted scenes with historical material in order to illustrate Lerfeldt's preoccupations and obsessions with porno, Chet Baker, Marilyn Monroe and Hitler's architectural dreams.
