Morin and Dufour must be fascinated by the problem of the perfect crime and what's more, they know the literature, like 'Ten little Indians' by Agatha Christie. This book could be the synopsis of 'La réception', for the only difference is that Christie's letter in a bottle (in which the murderer reveals his identity) is replaced here by a video tape. If it depended on chance in the first case - could the sea cause the bottle to be washed ashore? - that the surprised investigators could discover the true facts, here Morin provides the solution free of charge because we are virtually watching the tape. The other changes with regard to the book are of marginal importance. The location is now Frog Island, the guests are ten French Canadian actors who introduce themselves via a kind of 'Crimewatch UK' as a collection of heavies just released from jail. During and after the gastronomic meal, they discuss the question as to whether there is an acceptable life after the death sentence, a question that becomes both more pressing and more academic the more the sword of justice catches them.
